Park forest Sijana, Pula – Points of interest


To the north it borders the county road Pula-Labin. Vegetation consists of holm-oak (Quercus pubescens) and hornbeam (Carpinius orientalis), and since it is so close to the sea, in warmer positions grows the oak (Quercus Illex). Typical elements are introduced broadleaves and conifers, and has a magnificent and rare specimens of cork oak (Quercus suber) and Brutian pine (Pinus brutia). The forest is a natural habitat for many other plants (shrubs, flowers, mushrooms) and animals, and it is shaped with winding paths. The resort became operational at the end of the nineteenth century, after the administration of the area by the Austro-Hungarian Navy. Then they named it Kaiserwald (Imperial Forest) and had become a favorite destination of locals. Exhibitions were having fun in nature, and after the second world war the 1st May celebrations.
